Do spiders eat termites? Are they the natural termite pest control we should rely on?
“Ants and spiders eat termites,” said one Phoenix-area homeowner. “But that doesn’t mean I want to live with them. Any of them.”
You won’t find many who believe we should let nature take its course when it comes to insects in our homes.
Arizona is home to a lot of common spiders. We also have 27 unique species. The most common spiders in Arizona are:
Spiders’ menus depend on their lifestyle. Web-builders eat:

Some believe spiders should not be eliminated from homes because they eat less-desirable pests like roaches, flies, fleas, and mosquitos. In doing so, they help prevent the spread of disease. And you need not worry about becoming overrun with spiders. When territorial push comes to shove, they eat each other.
You entertain maybe two or three houseflies a week. Spiders can reduce insect populations like houseflies and mosquitos. If you can get past the creepy-crawly things and the fact that spiders do bite, spider pest-control might be for you. When it comes to some insects, at least.
Spiders eat 10 times their body weight every day. That’s equal to you eating about 15 pounds of meat daily. Spiders eat termites, too. So do we really need termite prevention and elimination? Can’t we just lean on spiders?
That’s simply not possible.
Even though spiders eat termites, you need a better approach if you desire true termite control. While many DIY (do-it-yourself) home projects are rewarding, termite elimination isn’t one of them. DIY termite control is messy and time-consuming. And often, it proves impossible.
Homeowners typically spend more, not less, because the treatments don’t work. They have to contact a local, pest elimination professional anyway.
The loss of a pet and the health risks to your family associated with DIY pest control aren’t worth it. And unfortunately, importing spiders isn’t going to work. You’d have to live in a spider resort to handle even a small section of your termite population.
Build magazine says, “The good news is termites won’t negatively affect your health.” Termites don’t spread diseases like many insects.
The bad news is the amazing amount of property destruction they cause (more than $5 billion/year). Most homeowners’ insurance policies won’t cover termite damage. Arizona homeowners are expected to be diligent about preventing termites. A quick response is key to preventing property damage.
Termites aren’t simply annoying insects. In fact, they are the “terminators” of the insect world. They can cause a path of destruction that will cost you thousands of dollars in damage.
Termites cause more annual damage than hailstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes, and windstorms combined. Termites are Arizona’s number-one pest. That’s why we often say termites are “inevitable.” It’s not if. It’s when you’ll deal with a termite problem.
You can’t live with termites, and there aren’t enough spiders in your home to control one termite colony. You definitely will want to include routine termite inspection as part of your annual household budget.
We prefer our Phoenix friends and neighbors prevent termite invasions before they have a chance to damage property. Our recurring pest control services are based on need: monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, or semi-annually. If you’re building new this year, we also offer pretreatments for your home or commercial property.
Did you know termites don’t sleep? They work 24/7 to ruin house foundations, destroy furniture, and collapse roofs. Budget Brothers Termite & Pest Elimination offers 24-hour emergency service too. Contact us to learn more.
