Are you hosting pool parties for the wasps near your pool this summer? Be careful!
Wasps need water and what better place to grab a drink than your pool, a giant awesome puddle of refreshing water. There’s nothing wrong with a quick visit when no one is the pool but wasps tend to bring their friends at all hours of the day with no regard for who else is outside.
They sting people and pets multiple times and the venom is poisonous. Rather than letting them stay, it’s a good ideas to get rid of wasps near your pool.
It’s quite tempting to turn your pool skimmer into a giant fly swatter when you see wasps near your pool. We highly recommend NOT doing that as it only serves to anger the wasps, making it more likely that you will get stung.
If you see wasps in the pool, do NOT attempt to drown them. They hold on to the bubbles that you created with your pool-skimmer-fly-swatter and can live for a few minutes. Letting them go too soon will release a really angry wasp.
Wasps don’t just come out of nowhere to celebrate summer at your pool. It’s likely there is a nearby nest or a food source.
Do you have sweet treats outside like sno-cones or popsicles? Is there food in your outside garbage can? They could be attracting wasps.
These pests swarm feed so when you see one, they are sourcing for food and will call their friends to join them as soon as they identify the food. A few wasps can quickly become a larger problem.
Despite liking to show up at the worst time, wasps are very anti-social. They will hide their nests in the eaves of your roof, in corners of your back patio overhang, near equipment sheds, or on walls hidden by overgrown foliage.
And if they’re coming by for the free food or drink, you know they aren’t too far away which means they’re likely on your property.
While there are many commercial wasp solutions, we don’t recommend approaching a large nest on your own. You can quickly find yourself overwhelmed by the nest you planned to conquer and in danger of being repeatedly stung (wasps aren’t well known for their tolerance and sunny personalities).
