We recently had the privilege to join the team at Brown Residential Group, with Ryan Miklus offering tips to homeowners to keep the pest away.
Micheal: |
Hey guys this is Micheal Brown with the Brown Residential Group, with my best bud, Mr. Austin Bates. How are you man? |
Austin: | I’m great. How you doing? |
Micheal: | Doing that blue thing today? |
Austin: | Wearing a little blue. |
Micheal: | I like it. |
Austin: | Little white. |
Micheal: |
We are with Ryan, who is from Budget Brothers Termite & Pest Elimination. I’ve known Ryan for about 10 years. He himself is amazing. His company is incredible. We were fortunate enough for he invited us to come out today to look at things that you guys can be aware of to heighten your awareness of pest control, because I guess with pest control is the question of whether you have it now or you’re going to have it, right? |
Ryan: | Yes. |
Micheal: | Termites are definitely a big thing here in Arizona. |
Ryan: | Everybody has termites. It’s just a matter of when. |
Micheal: | When. Okay. This is a home that’s under contract. He said, hey come on out. We’ll take you through. You want to show us around? |
Ryan: | Yeah. Let’s have a look. |
Micheal: | Okay. |
Ryan: |
For termites, termite related items, you don’t want to have pieces of wood like this lodged in the ground next to the home. The reason for that is that’s just inviting for termites. We have wanted them to sit there. It would soften it up and the termites would just come up and eat it, and then start eating the main part of the house. |
Micheal: | Okay. |
Ryan: |
I recommend keeping all wood away from the house, and as much moisture away from the house as possible. |
Austin: | That gap, the lip that you see there? |
Ryan: |
This gap here also for other pests, this is an opening for any kind of pest to crawl through. It’s a good idea to have that sealed up, which is a service that we provide all the time, especially for a scorpion accounts, where we go under. Seal up all gaps under the home and all openings available so that any pests that are under the house and in the yard aren’t able to get to the property. |
Micheal: |
Here’s a silly question, sorry. The pests are trying to get inside for what? Shade and be cool? Or for food? Why are they going in? |
Austin: | You like to eat don’t you? |
Micheal: | Well, it’s kind of hot out here. I probably want to get in there too. |
Ryan: |
It’s a little hot, yes. They’re definitely going to be attracted in there for a place to harbor. Like, your crickets, your silverfish, your earwigs, they’re going to go up in there for when it’s hot. Then in the evening when it’s nice and cool, they’re going to come back out. They’re going to try to find a place that’s nice and cool. |
Micheal: | Okay. |
Ryan: | You can see, it’s very dry and hot. |
Micheal: | Right. |
Ryan: |
They’re going to look for areas like that. Spiders, same thing. They’re usually going to go up underneath there, and that’s when you see them pop out on the other side of the property. |
Micheal: | Okay, cool. You have another area you want to show us? |
Ryan: |
Yes. Some of the bigger things are keeping yards like this, you want to keep the grass trimmed. The reason for that is thick vegetation is going to be attractive for all your pests, whether it’s crickets, roaches, silverfish, they’re going to be attracted to this thick brush. Now, when we go to a pesticide application, it’s difficult for us to spray this area, because they’re going to be way down thick in this area down below. Now, as a homeowner, it’s helpful to have these yards prepped and mowed either by yourself or a landscaper before we put down any kind of pesticide application so we can be more effective in protecting the home from any kind of pests. |
Austin: | That makes sense. |
Ryan: | That’s the recommendation I’d do for most of your general pests. |
Austin: | Sorry, you said there was another area over here right? |
Ryan: |
Yes. Other openings that are vulnerable. I’m not too sure if you can see back in here, but there’s an opening in this duct work back up in here where anything can get in the house. They can crawl right back in there. If you have a bird, if you have scorpions, spiders, rodent, they can all possibly get up in there, so you want to make sure all that’s sealed up. Budget Brothers, we provide estimates for sealing up stuff like that if it’s needed for pests or rodents. |
Micheal: | All right guys, thank goodness we’re back inside. It’s kind of hot outside. Ryan is going to just wrap up with some tips here. I know Austin wanted to mention something. |
Austin: | I hate insects. I hate little insects. I hate spiders. I hate scorpions. |
Micheal: | Look at the size of you, and look at the size of insects. |
Austin: | The smaller they are they more I hate them. |
Ryan: | Who’s the superior species here? |
Austin: |
I have shoes on. Not me. Action item. For the consumer, what would you recommend for someone like me who we don’t necessarily have an insect problem, from what I see, but I don’t know. Do you do consultations? Estimates? Come out to the house? Visit? Your recommendations for what the consumer should do. How’s that process work? |
Ryan: |
Yes. We offer free estimates. We will come out to the property and take a look at the house, much like I’ve done today for the inspection. I would give recommendations for the homeowner to do, because it’s … Integrated pest management includes the homeowner, not just ourselves. The better off the house is for us to apply chemicals, pesticides, the better off it is to protect your home. A home like this, if you’re not seeing so much bi-monthly or quarterly services are usually recommended. If you have an area where you have a lot of scorpions, or a lot of spiders, or a lot of moisture, you may want to go monthly because you’re going to see a higher population of different pests. |
Micheal: |
I know this from clients I worked with in the past, the chemicals you use, you take into consideration if people have pets and stuff, right? Kids. |
Ryan: |
Absolutely. Everything is pet friendly. Pet and child friendly. We always recommend that when the services are provided that we keep all those away from the house. Keep them away from the outside of the house for about an hour until it dries. Once it’s dry, it’s designed for the body weight of the insect itself, so it’s not going to be harmful to the children like that. |
Micheal: | Awesome. Listen, Ryan, thank you my man. Really appreciate it. |
Ryan: | No worries. |
Micheal: |
This guy’s solid. I’ve known him for a long time. They do great work. They stand by their work, and as a matter of fact, one of the clients that we had, they did have a termite problem repeatedly, and as many times as they had issues, you guys came out until it was fixed. It took maybe a few months, but you guys stayed on it. I recommend them. Austin’s going to be recommending them soon. |
Austin: | I hate insects. I recommend them. |
Micheal: |
Thanks for stopping by. We hope it’s been helpful. We’re going to put Ryan’s contact information at the end of the video. You guys be safe and critter free. Take care. |
