In November 2021, a biblical-like rainstorm and flood occurred in Egypt. It left three Cairo residents dead and more than 500 hospitalized from scorpion stings. The storms forced scorpions from their hiding places and into homes. The hospitals were able to discharge all patients following anti-venom doses.
“Egypt is home to the Egyptian fat-tailed scorpion,” according to the AP (Associated Press), “which is considered one of the most deadly scorpions in the world.”
You won’t find the fat-tailed scorpion in Maricopa County, unless it’s been transported by travelers from North Africa or South Asia. But you will find at least 38 types of scorpions in Arizona.
Scorpions and spiders are arachnids, not “insects.” (Insects usually have wings.) No matter what you call them, arachnids and insects are unwelcome in most homes. The types of scorpions in Arizona you’re likely to see include:
Scorpions have 8 legs and sharp pincers that can grip almost anything. They can scale seemingly flat walls easily. They can compress themselves into the thickness of a debit card to slide into external openings in your home or foundation. And the most toxic Arizona scorpion (the Arizona bark) is the one that seeks shelter inside homes most often.
Of the 38 types of scorpions in Arizona, the Arizona bark scorpion has the worst reputation. It deserves a bad reputation. The bark scorpion is the most venomous in North America.
Its stings are extremely painful but rarely deadly, except to infants and small animals. At the first sign of nausea, trouble swallowing, or difficulty breathing, seek medical treatment. Its only redeeming value is it eats roaches and other insects. It also serves as food to birds of prey and reptiles.
The Arizona desert hairy scorpion can be as large as 7″ long. It’s certainly the biggest and ugliest of the more common types of scorpions in Arizona. But its sting isn’t very painful and not very toxic. Always watch for signs of allergic reactions from any kind of bite or sting.
Our Arizona stripe-tailed scorpion is sometimes called the “devil” scorpion because of its appearance. These scorpions are so small they may be difficult to spot, but they like hiding under rocks, firewood, and in dark places in your yard or house.
People who live in glass houses don’t throw stones. They don’t have scorpions, either. That revelation led to the development of Budget Brothers Scorpion Repel, the one-time treatment that repels scorpions for years and years.
We guarantee Budget Brothers Scorpion Repel for 5 years. We aren’t sure how many years one application will be effective, but we believe it may be permanent. Our first Budget Brothers Scorpion Repel application was over 5 years ago and it’s still working.
It’s not only effective against scorpions, our friends and neighbors (like you) are saying it seems to repel other creepy-crawlies. That works for us! Let Budget Brothers Scorpion Repel work for your home or office. For a free estimate, contact Budget Brothers Termite & Pest Elimination.
